Come and celebrate our School Centenary
A global call has gone out to past pupils to alert people to our upcoming centenary.
Our school will celebrate its 100th birthday on May 1 and we are calling on people to contribute their memories and memorabilia.
For three generations of one family, Haberfield Public occupies a special place in their heart. Grandfather John Thomas was a pupil in the late 1940s. Our school was then called Haberfield Demonstration School because it was where student teachers went to do their teaching practice.
By the time daughter Rachael Thomas started school in the 1970s, many Italians had arrived.
“There were lots of kids that had Italian parents,” she said. “Most of the kids were born here and their parents had emigrated. There were a few who had come without any English, but they learned so quickly. It was quite amazing.”
Nowadays, our school’s students come from many different cultural backgrounds.
