Our Year 5 children have been engaging in a range of interesting Writing experiences this Term. They are participating in the 2010 Sun-Herald MS Readathon Ultimate Story, an annual SMH Education writing competition. They have been reading each chapter of an ongoing story from the weekly Get Writing Newspaper Supplement.

At the conclusion of chapter five, students are invited to write the final chapter of the story. The winning chapter will be published in The Sun-Herald. The Get Writing supplement has been offered to HPS at no cost thanks to the State Library of NSW.

We have also been lucky enough to draw upon the experiences of Mr Andrew Stevenson in class this term. Students have learnt to analyse language and incorporate new writing ideas into their work. They have developed a sense of fun and enjoyment toward writing which has been valuable to share!

Stage 3 are also submitting entries to the Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Competition, the largest poetry competition for school students in Australia. The poetry competition aims to inspire children to express their thoughts creatively whilst celebrating the legendary work of Dorothea Mackellar.
