Our school

Principal's Welcome

Thank you for visiting our school website. Haberfield Public School is situated in an inner western suburb of Sydney. Our beautiful grounds with wide-open spaces and leafy surroundings provide an excellent physical environment for our students.

Our school has an average enrolment of 580 students who come from a rich diversity of cultures. We have a committed staff and a supportive school community. At Haberfield, we have a long-standing reputation for high academic achievement and creative and innovative teaching practices and programs.

Our school is a welcoming, warm, nurturing and caring place where the individual differences of our students are recognised, accepted and valued. Students, parents and teachers work together to create a family atmosphere, taking pride in their school and working as true partners in education. We are very proud of our school and what it has to offer your child.

Starting school with us

Starting school is an important step in a young child’s life. Children may enter Kindergarten at the beginning of the school year at Haberfield Public School if they turn five on or before 31 July in that year. Some gifted and talented children may be ready to start school at an earlier age while others may benefit from being a little older.

Our Kindergarten Orientation in Term 4 provides opportunities for you and your child to meet our staff, tour the school and attend parent workshops that cover all aspects of general school life. We also encourage you to join us at our School Open Days which provide parents with opportunities to meet our staff, tour our school and gain insights on all aspects of school policies, procedures and general school life.

School Community

im3-7

We aim to facilitate an effective learning environment that supports the individual needs of all of our students. We recognise that the individual needs of children are important factors in their development and overall wellbeing. We are committed to maintaining positive lines of communication when collaborating with children, families, carers and external agencies. At Haberfield Public School we value support from all parents and encourage you to join our Parents and Citizens Association.

Joining the P&C is an excellent way to participate in the development of the school. Interested parents are always invited to join. New faces and fresh ideas are always welcome. Meetings are held each third Tuesday of every month in the school Staff Room.

Extra-curricular programs

We have a dynamic extra-curricular instrumental program in existence at our school. We currently have three choirs, three bands and string and recorder ensembles that participate in the Sydney Region Music Festival and in many other festivals and school events.

Our Dancesport team participates in the Sydney Region Dancesport competition. Year 5 students are trained in ballroom dancing by professional dance teachers and then compete against other schools within the metropolitan district.

Other extra-curricular activities that students participate in at our school include Sydney Region Public Speaking Competitions, University of NSW competitions, Maths Olympiad, PSSA Sport, Gala Days, Chinese Eistedfod, TechnoPush Challenge, Italian Club, Premier's Reading Challenge, Chess Club, Sydney Region Art Competitions and Debating.
