Music

im3-11
Junior Choir at Primary Proms

As part of the Music Education program at Haberfield Public School all students in Years 1 to 5 learn the recorder.

All students begin by learning singing, developing skills in pitch, rhythm, language and movement with our Creative & Performing Arts Coordinator and Music Director, Mr David Collins-White. This is followed by the introduction to the recorder in year 1 and continues through to Year 6. Due to health risks involved in sharing recorders we ask all students to have their own recorder. Quality Yamaha Recorders can be purchased from the school office for $9.00.  Students can if they wish also purchase the recorder tutor for $15.00. The tutor has a CD, which students can practice with.

Live Performances

All Students Kindergarten to Year 6 will be attending two live performances.

The performances will be at venues outside of school due to the building program at Haberfield. Students will have the opportunity to attend performances at the first class venues of the Seymour Centre & the Sydney Olympic State Centre.

These performances are linked to the K-6 Creative Arts Syllabus, which includes Music, Dance and Drama. Classroom lessons are also linked to these performances.

Each performance has a fee and we ask that you pay for all performances for 2010 via your class teacher by Friday 14th March.

The performances are presented by quality organisations with cost and access as important considerations. We hope to give students a varied and exciting exposure to the Performing Arts.

The performances and costs are as follows;

Visual Arts

Our specialist Visual Arts teacher, Mrs Anna Pulvirenti, conducts weekly Visual Arts lessons for Primary classes.

Children from Haberfield Public will once again contribute works toward Operation Art.

Operation Art
 Operation Art Works

Operation Art provides opportunities for students to demonstrate their achievements in visual arts through a major exhibition which receives widespread publicity and recognition. The works submitted are designed to contribute to a visual environment that helps relieve anxiety for children during hospitalisation.

Virtually Archibald

Students in Stage 3 classes learn about portraiture by making portraits and by studying portraits created by professional artists and other students. They emulate the Archibald Prize by creating a portfolio of portraits. During Virtually Archibald, students show their learning through responding to artworks and making portraits. As well as responding to the work of other artists, students also reflect upon their own work and learning.
