Haberfield Public School participates in the exciting DANCESPORT CHALLENGE.

Selected students from Year 5 participate in 15 weeks of ballroom dance lessons with a professional coach. This culminates in a spectacular Grand Finale competition in Term 3.

This vibrant DET Sydney Region dance program features over 700 students representing some 24 government schools dancing to the emotion and drama of The Salsa, Jive, Tango and Cha Cha in a Grand Finale of colour, movement and sound at The State Sports Centre at Sydney Olympic Park.  

30 students (15 boys and 15 girls) are chosen to have this unique opportunity. They will be taught Ballroom and Latin dancing by a professional teacher. This will occur for 1 hour per week, over 15 weeks in Terms 2 and 3.

Lessons culminate in a thrilling Grand finale competition and showcase that will be held at the State Sports Centre, Homebush.

The dances that will be taught include the Cha Cha, Tango, Jive and Salsa. On the tenth week of rehearsal our dance instructor will pick 4 couples to represent Haberfield Public School in one of the 4 dances taught. All students will dance in the showcase at the Grand Finale evening.

While the finale is a competition the main emphasis is on participation and great enjoyment. 

The Dancesport Challenge Final event is held at the State Sports Centre, Olympic Park Homebush Bay.

Ticket sales for the event are open through Ticket Direct Australia and can be purchased online (www.ticketdirect.com.au). Ticket booking information, including prices is also attached.

Performing students do not need to purchase a ticket. There is no allocated seating for this event and the doors will open at 5.30pm. Please book early to avoid disappointment. Last year it was a sold out event!
